these days we have heard a lot about stress and coping with it. But what exactly is the meaning of it. |
Dictionary meaning of stress is pressure, strain or tension. | |
Psychologically it means as an internal state which can be caused by physical demands on the body[ disease conditions, exercise, extremes of temperature, and like] or by environmental and social situations which are evaluated as potentially harmful or uncontrollable. Sometimes it exceeds our sources of coping. |
Stress is a big problem in our society. Some 75% of bodily disease is said to be stress related. For eg. Stress is often a factor in heart disease and cancer, two major leading cause of death. Stress seems to be involved in much of our unhappiness, irritability and dissatisfaction. |
Little stress is useful in helping us adapt. But beyond some point, "STRESS" becomes "DISTRESS." What acts to produce distress varies greatly from person to person, but some events seem to be stressful for many of us. Chief amongst these are injuries or infections of body, annoying or dangerous events in our environments, anticipated or actual threats to our self esteem, loss of near and dear ones etc. |
In today's life style of Bombay 2 major issues like pollution and population are in creasing day by day. These 2 are constant and cannot be changed or reduced by any means. So we have to live by keeping these 2 constant factors parallel to our life style.
